Accomplishments
Foss4G 2007 Conference
Presented a talk about the advantages of using Atom and the Atom Publishing Protocol to exchange geographic information instead of more traditional OpenGIS standards such as GML (Geography Markup Language) and WFS (Web Feature Service). Slides are available online.
GITA 2007 Web Mapping Seminar
Organized and led a roundtable seminar on Web Mapping at GITA's 2007 conference in San Antonio. The seminar included three industry luminaries - Geoff Zeiss (Autodesk), Bill Gail (Microsoft) and Peter Batty (Integraph) - and was one of the best attended seminars at the conference. I spoke about social mapping - my slides are available online.
GE Network Reliability Service’s Users Conference, 2003, New Orleans
Presented two talks. The first talk discussed how OMG’s Model Driven Architecture standards can make it easier to exchange data between different computer systems. The second talk provided an overview of OpenGIS standards and how they are supported by GE NRS’s product line.

Senior Thesis
Thesis, which was supported by an undergraduate research grant, was presented at the 1993 conference of the Geological Society of America. Later, the results made up a small part of a paper published in the International Geology Review.
Stanford Geological Survey, Palo Alto, California
Mapped and wrote an 80-page, award-winning geologic report on 45 square kilometers located in eastern Nevada and southern Idaho.

- Lead developer for ruby-prof, the most popular Ruby profiler. Rails 2.x includes ruby-prof support, and the Ruby core team plans to integrate ruby-prof into Ruby in the future.
- GEOS
- Committer for GEOS, the leading open source geospatial analysis engine. GEOS is used in a number of products, including MapGuide, FME and PostGIS.
- GDAL
- Committer for GDAL, a popular vector and raster conversion program.
- SWIG
- Committer for SWIG, which allows dynamic languages such as Ruby to use functionality implemented in C and C++ libraries.
